The Materials

Not all SCMs are the same material — or the same opportunity

Each supplementary cementitious material displaces clinker differently, at different maturity levels. Here's where India's supply strengths line up with what EU producers already use or are approved to use.

The most established SCM globally. EU supply is tied to coal power and is structurally declining; India's coal fleet still generates it at scale, with mature collection and quality-grading infrastructure already in place.

A by-product of blast-furnace steelmaking. As EU steelmakers shift toward direct-reduced iron and electric arc furnaces, conventional GBFS volumes fall. India's blast-furnace steel capacity remains a live source.

Uses an alkaline medium instead of Portland clinker chemistry entirely. Still awaiting harmonised EU standards (expected via CEN/TC 51), but a longer-term angle worth tracking alongside near-term SCM sourcing.
